Kaitlin Campbell earns W-League team of the week honors!
W-League Team of the Week
USL New Release

June 17, 2010

United Soccer Leagues announced the W-League Team of the Week today, with Ashley Bares of the Chicago Red Eleven named Player of the Week. The forward found the back of the net twice against Kalamazoo, including the match’s game winner, in a dominating performance by the Red Eleven.

Bares was dangerous for Chicago all of last week, leading her teams in shots on goal against Kalamazoo and London. In the London match Bares assisted on the game-winning goal. Bares constantly caused problems for opposition teams in front of goal.

Bares was not the only W-League player to score twice in a game last week, as two other players completed the feat. Dani Toney of the Pali Blues and Meghan Lenczyk of the Washington Freedom Futures each scored twice in their teams’ matches.

Three players came up big in the clutch with game-winning goals as Molly Mechel of Washington, Chelsea Klotz of Tampa Bay and Ashley Johnson of Northern Virginia each pushed their team to victory. Meghan Tomlinson also scored a big goal and assisted on another for the Atlanta Silverbacks.

Last week’s W-League action featured superb defending from several players. Caitlin Campbell led the New Jersey Wildcats to a clean sheet win and added a goal as well. Lisa DuCote of Northern Virginia put on a defensive clinic for the Majestics, where her side did not allow a shot in the second half against rival Hampton Roads. Bryanna McCarthy of Toronto also played a solid defensive match and assisted on the team’s game-winning goal.

Cynthia Leblanc is the goalkeeper of the week, after she made 14 saves, kept a clean sheet and led Laval to a win against Quebec.
