New Rochelle, NY - (Sunday, July 18th, 2010) - Angela DeSumma scored on two set-pieces to put the Wildcats up 2-1 at the end of the first half. Jessica Fuccello scored a goal by challenging the keeper for the ball, winning it, and putting it into the back of the net to make it 3-1. Amy Hoyer went all out for a 50/50 ball with a Magic defender on a cross and one timed a beautiful goal into the back of the net to make it 4-1. The Magic than dug deep and pushed their way back into the match by scoring two goals to make it 4-3 with 10 minutes to go in the game. Fortunately, the Wildcats were able to close the game out with a 4-3 win.
With this win the Wildcats earned a post season berth into the playoffs which will be next weekend in Atlanta, July 23rd & 24th, hosted by the Atlanta Silverbacks. The Eastern Conference playoffs will showcase the Washington Freedom playing the Charlotte Lady Eagles and the New Jersey Wildcats playing against the Atlanta Silverbacks. Hudson Valley Quickstrike (11-1-0), the Northeast Division Champions and currently the # 1 ranked team in the nation, earned an automatic bid to the Final Four by winning the overall W-League Regular Season Championship. Three other teams will join Hudson Valley Quickstrike in Santa Clarita, California out of 10 playoff teams. The winner of the Eastern Conference playoffs, winner of the Western Conference playoffs, and the winner of the Central Conference playoffs will fill out the remaining three slots in the W-League Final Four.
