UNC vs. Sky Blue FC on March 21st
FORMER WILDCAT DANAE O’HALLORAN RETURNS TO NJ AS UNC FACES SKY BLUE FC
North Carolina Meets NWSL’s Sky Blue FC on March 21st at Mercer County Community College
West Windsor, N.J. – New Jersey Wildcats fans will have an opportunity to see former Wildcats midfielder Danae O’Halloran in action once again here in New Jersey, as the University of North Carolina Tar Heels will take on Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) on Saturday, March 21st. The host site for the match will be Mercer County Community College in West Windsor, with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m.
“It is really exciting to see our players continue their careers at the next level, especially at a storied program like the University of North Carolina,” said Kevin McDermott, Wildcats President. “Danae was always a great player for the Wildcats, and her incredible work ethic has deservedly led her to where she is today. I definitely encourage everyone to come out to this game and support Danae, UNC and Sky Blue FC right here in New Jersey.”
O’Halloran began playing for the Wildcats in its youth system, leading her team to the 2008 U.S. Club National Championship, 2009 USYSA-NJYS State Championship and 2012 U.S. Club State Championship. The Toms River native first suited up for the Wildcats W-League side when she was just 14-years-old, serving as team captain during her senior year of high school. This past fall, O’Halloran made two starts and appeared in every match for UNC as a freshman, registering an assist and two shots over the season.
“It is always exciting to come home to New Jersey,” O’Halloran remarked. “It’s really nice to play in front of so many people who support you. My family will obviously be there, as well as my Wildcats family and friends. Being a seven-hour drive away at UNC, it can be difficult for people to have the chance to come support you, so it will be nice to have a game so close to home next weekend.”
O’Halloran joined a healthy list of former Wildcats who went on to play at North Carolina, among them being U.S. Women’s National Team alumnae Heather O’Reilly, Tobin Heath, Yael Averbuch and Amber Brooks.
Admission into Sky Blue FC vs. the University of North Carolina will be $10 per person, and pre-game activities will get underway at 1:30 p.m.
